ICE Updates I‑9 Guidance and Expands Substantive Violations

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently updated its I‑9 guidance, and the changes mean that common administrative mistakes may now be treated as substantive violations that lead to immediate fines. ICE is also moving more quickly on enforcement following inspections. Employers should review their onboarding process, strengthen I‑9 completion procedures, and consider regular internal audits to reduce the risk of penalties under the updated standards.
